Q: What is Emerland SMP?
A: Emerland is a peaceful, whitelisted Minecraft Bedrock server that’s been running since July 2020. We’re a community-driven server with two worlds: the original Emerland (no resets, ever) and New Emerland, which gets a fresh start every once in a while. We keep it mostly vanilla, with a few quality-of-life mods like e. g. tp gates, beefed-up dragon drops.
Q: How do I join Emerland?
A: Easy! Just join our Discord and our Server Assistant Sharon and Mods or other Members will guide you out through the process. Once you’re approved, you’ll need to pass a small trust test—don’t worry, it’s nothing scary! We just want to make sure everyone plays nice and follows the rules.
Q: What are the server rules?
A: We keep things pretty simple:
- Be respectful – No hate, spam, or griefing.
- No stealing – What’s yours is yours, and what’s someone else’s… is not yours.
- No unprovoked attacks – Player vs. Player (PvP) is only with consent.
- No cheating – No duping, x-ray, fly mods, or anything that breaks the game’s vanilla feel.
That’s about it—basic honour system stuff!
Q: Can I invite my siblings or friends to join the server?
A: Absolutely! We love when players bring their friends and family to join in. If you want to play with younger siblings or family members, we recommend keeping an eye on them – just to make sure they don’t accidentally set the shopping district on fire or spawn a Wither in the Nether Hub (yikes!).
As for online friends you trust? That’s awesome too! In fact, if you have the Emerald Tag, you can even recommend them for a quick promotion to the Emerald rank once they join.
Q: What is the “Emerald Tag”?
A: The Emerald Tag is like a rank for trusted players. Once you’ve proven you can be trusted and are actively enjoying the server, you’ll be awarded the Emerald Tag. This unlocks some cool perks, like removing travel and build limits and full access to all Discord channels. It’s our way of saying, “You’re one of us now!”
Q: Are there age restrictions for playing on Emerland SMP?
A: We don’t have strict age restrictions, but we recommend players be over 13 years old, which is the minimum age for Discord (or whatever it is these days). Our community is a mix—most players are in their late teens, some in their 20s, and a few of us are well into our 30s. We’ve even had players in their 40s, though they aren’t as active anymore. We try to keep things safe and clean for younger players, especially in our Discord, but note that the in-game chat isn’t actively moderated or monitored, apart from some long-term trusted members keeping an eye on things.
Q: What countries are Emerland members from?
A: We’re a global community! Most of our players are from Europe, the UK, the USA, India, and Australia. No matter where you’re from, you’re welcome as long as you can communicate in English. The diversity is what makes our server so special!
Q: What’s the difference between Emerland and New Emerland?
A:
New Emerland: This one resets when we feel like it (or get bored). It’s currently in its 3rd season, so if you like fresh starts and a clean slate, New Emerland is where the fun is at right now!
Emerland: The OG world. It’s been around since the start and has never been reset. If you’re into long-term projects and want your builds to stay forever, this is your place.
Q: Is the server active?
A: It’s a bit quieter these days, but Emerland never dies! Some of our key players have moved on with life, but every so often, they come back after a year (or two). The server is mostly online1, and we don’t plan on shutting it down anytime soon. Whether you want to pop in for a quick session or embark on a massive project, you’re always welcome.
Q: Are there any world resets?
A: So we’ve got 2 worlds running (usually). Emerland world has never been reset, and there are no plans to reset it in the future. If you’re a fan of long-term, no-wipe builds, this is perfect for you.
On the other hand, New Emerland world gets reset when we’re ready for something fresh, so it’s great for starting new projects. Old New Emerland world downloads become available at the end of the season.
Q: I play on PS4/Xbox/console. Can I still join?
A: Absolutely! We’re a Bedrock server, so players on PC, mobile, tablet, or consoles can join. That said, our founder Req001 is playing on PS4 (as he is utterly useless with PE and allergic to Windows), and the PSN+ subscription fee is what keeps him from joining as much as he’d like.
Q: What’s the server’s currency?
A: We generally operate with a diamond economy. Our shops are run by players, and diamonds are the way to trade goods and services.
Q: Can I build in both worlds?
A: Yes, once you’re whitelisted, you can build in both Emerland and New Emerland. It’s up to you whether you want to start a long-term project in Emerland or dive into the fresh terrain of New Emerland!
Q: What’s this “trust test” for new players?
A: New players must pass a short evaluation period where we make sure you’re a good fit for the community. It’s mainly to keep griefers out and ensure everyone has a fun, respectful time on the server.
Q: What are some fun things happening on the server?
A: Apart from Minecraft builds, our players share some awesome content on Discord! From art and design to poetry and Minecraft lore, there’s a creative vibe around here. We’ve also got players who stream and create videos—there’s always something cool happening! Or not.
Q: What’s Sharon, and why is she helping me?
A: Sharon is our friendly, foxy Discord bot! She helps manage the whitelist, tracks playtime, and rescues players stuck in tricky spots (thanks, Bedrock Portal Glitch). She’s also handy for seeing who’s online and managing other server tasks.
Q: How can I support the server?
A: If you want to help keep Emerland running, we gladly accept donations! Contributions help cover server hosting costs, electricity, broadband, and keeping our bots Sharon and Luí (her BFF) up and running. Every bit helps, and we appreciate it more than you know! 💖
Q: What is the server capacity?
A: The server should handle up to 20 players at once, though we haven’t really tested it with more than 12 players online at the same time. It can get a bit laggy when there are a few players on, even 3-4, especially when Real turns on his gold farm ;-). For those into the technical stuff, the render distance is set to 64 chunks, and the tick distance is set a bit higher than usual at 6 chunks. So, while the server can handle a decent amount of activity, things can slow down with too many big farms running simultaneously.
Q: Is Emerland really never going away?
A: That’s the plan! We’ll keep the server online as long as we can. Whether it’s a busy day with players or a quiet one, Emerland will always be a place you can return to.
- If the server isn’t online it is probably due to being dead for extended period… (or someone needed the computer, that may happen too :-). Just ping Req001 on Discord to spin it back on if you wanna play. ↩︎
